The third face-to-face event of the "Dekanlık Söyleşileri (Dean's Talks)" series organized by the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture of our university took place on May 12, 2022. In this event of the series, Research Assistant H. Aysın Özkan Yazar from Urban and Regional Planning Department shared with us his presentation titled " Management and Actor Relations in Gated Housing Projects ".
The researcher starting her presentation by mentioning that gated communities are not anymore just for sheltering. Instead they are some exquisite examples of the concept of governance. Özkan Yazar saying that this type of housing gathers many actors both public and private under the same roof of management.pointed that variables like management tools, processes and management capasity are also critically important to manage those communities.
On the other hand, Özkan Yazar said that although gated communities are a physical and spatial part of city, they are not fully integrated planning policies and urban management in Istanbul and they become highly controversial since their number have increased drastically over the last three decades. The researcher evaluated the semi-structured interviews which she conducted on selected housing projects and their actors like developers, site managements and local administrations. By all accounts, Özkan Yazar emphasized that it is important developing a consistent and comprehensive legal basis to provide sustainable, efficient and good management of gated communities. She further claimed that it is important to develop legal tools and integrate them with planning laws and instutions to uncloud instutional integration, coordination and collobration between actors and to provide good governance.
